João Félix's great performance against Atlético

João Félix's great performance against Atlético

The Portuguese forward scores the winner for Barça against Diego Simeone's team

It just had to be. João Félix was the match winner on Sunday with his goal giving Barça a vital victory in the clash with the team he left in the summer to join the blaugranes on loan, Atlético Madrid. The Portuguese foward's first half strike was the cherry on the top of a performance which highlighted Félix's all round game in the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys.

The Barça number 14 was the player who won the ball back most on six occasions, alongside Ilkay Gündoğan, a sign of just how hard João Félix worked on defensive matters as well as attacking. The Portuguese forward was the man behind both the blaugranes' efforts on goal against Atlético and his sublime skills led to booking for Axel Witsel and Azpiliceuta.

After the game Félix was clearly delighted in his post game interview. "We knew it would be a difficult game so it's a very important win and now it is time to think about Girona," said the matchwinner.

João Félix: in the spotlight

Since signing on loan for Barça in the summer, João Félix has been in the spotlight, especially in the run up to Sunday's game against Atlético Madrid. However, the striker shrugged off the pressure: "It was just another week, because every week there is talk about me, for better or for worse. I am always a topic of conversation. Nevertheless, I am relaxed, doing my job. I am here to get better every day and to be the best player I can every day. That is thanks to the help of my team mates and the club."

Estadi Olímpic bows down to João

Barça temporary home in Montjuïc heard the fans chant his name against Atlético. "When I heard that I could not believe it because I know how big this Club is. To have the fans chanting your name does not happen to many. I will keep working hard so they can keep singing it," admitted Félix.
