In 1973 the arrival of a Dutch footballer at FC Barcelona marked a before and after moment in the history of the Club. As a player and then coach, Johan Cruyff left an imprint that will be forever remembered at Barça and in 2019 another midfielder from the Netherlands came to the Club with the aim of becoming another important blaugrana figure, Frenkie de Jong.
Separated by decades but together in defending the Barça shirt, De Jong and Cruyff have now played the same amount of league games for FC Barcelona after the midfielder's appearance in the 2-1 win against Atlético Madrid in La Liga, his 139th as a Barça player.
In his first season with Barça, Johan Cruyff showed his enormous talent and led the blaugranes to their first league title in 14 years when they took the domestic crown in 1974. Frenkie de Jong, in contrast, had to wait until his third season as a blaugrana before adding the La Liga title to his list of honours last season.
