Comeback kings once again

Comeback kings once again

Against Alavés, FC Barcelona came from behind to win yet again, and no Liga team has scored as many goals in the last 15 minutes

FC Barcelona has been famed for its comebacks over the years, and 2023/24 is proving to be no exception. They're been doing it the hard way and often leaving it very, very late, but the boys in blaugrana have saved the day in the face of adversity time and time again.

Barça have not been getting games off to the best of starts this season, and Sunday at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys  was no exception. But after conceding for the second time this season in the first 20 seconds of a game, Lewandowski's brace eventually sorted things out and earned three points against Alavés.

Barça have now won 11 of their points in games where they were trailing at some stage, the fourth highest tally in Europe's top five leagues, a ranking that is topped by Girona

Magical final quarter

It's in the final quarter hour that Barça have been coming into their own of late. Again against Alavés, the winner didn't come until the 78th minute, and that's now 12 points that the Catalans have won with less than 15 minutes of regular time left on the clock, the highest number in Europe's top five leagues, with Bayern Munich and Stuttgart being the next two teams when it comes to leaving things until late.

Lewandowski can be thanked for four of the goals that have clinched those tardy points, while Cancelo has two and there has been one each from Pedri, Ferran Torres, Sergi Roberto, Marc Guiu and Ronald Araujo (as well as a Sergio Ramos own goal).

Barça are also tops in Europe for goals in the last 15 minutes, 14 in total. And they're tops by far. Only Manchester United come close with 11, while third place goes to Las Palmas with 'just' 7.

We've said it before and we'll say it again. When it comes to battling all the way through to the final whistle, there's no team quite like FC Barcelona.
