Midfielders with an eye for goal

Great goalscoring from midfield for Barça this season. Xavi Hernández' side have scored 6 goals so far this season, 2 against Cádiz and 4 against Villarreal, and half of those goals were scored by midfielders Pedri, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong.

Goals mean points

Two of those three goals opened the scoring. Pedri's was the first of the season and also the first at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and came in the 82nd minute of a game that was proving extremely hard to crack.

And it was Gavi who headed in the opener at the Estadio de la Cerámica, home of Villarreal, and his midfield partner Frenkie de Jong added the second of the evening just two minutes later. 

Best of the decade

This is the best goalscoring start for the Barça midfield since the 2011/12 season, when Xavi Hernández, Thiago Alcántara and Cesc Fàbregas (2) scored four goals between them in the first three games. That was the only occasion this century, other than the current season, when three different midfielders scored in the first three games.
