Fermín López will always remember 27 August 2023. The midfielder from La Masia made his official first team debut on that date in FC Barcelona's win over Villarreal in the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Wearing the number 32 on his back, the Andalusian came on in the 86th minute for İlkay Gündoğan. Fermín did not appear overawed, asking for the ball when the opportunity arose. The youngster came close to scoring to mark the occasion with a low shot that went close, reminiscent of his goal against Real Madrid in Dallas on the recent US preseason tour. Only this time, Villarreal keeper Jorgensen managed to get a hand to the ball to make an excellent save. Another day his first goal will surely come.
13th La Masia debutant under Xavi
The commitment to youth and La Masia continues under Xavi Hernández as Fermín becomes the 13th youth system product to debut and joins a list that is comprised of Ilias, Jutglà, Álvaro Sanz, Estanis, Mika Mármol, Bellerín, Iñaki Peña, Casadó, Riad, Garrido, Alarcón and Lamine.
