Marcos Alonso Peña passed away this Thursday 9 February. Born in Santander on 1 October 1959, the father of current Barça defender Marcos Alonso joined FC Barcelona in 1982 from Atlético Madrid. Popularly known as “Pichón”, the was a top quality, pacey winger who could play on either side. Skilful with the ball at his feet, he also had a fine shot with both feet and was very strong in the air.
Much remembered goal
He is especially remembered for his extraordinary high-footed goal in the final minute of the 1982/83 Copa del Rey Final against Real Madrid, the goal that won the trophy. In 1987 he returned to Atlético having played 180 games for Barça, scoring 39 goals. He had won La Liga (1984/85), the Copa del Rey (1982/83), the Spanish Super Cup (1983) and two League Cups (1982/83 and 1985/86).
