Sergio Busquets, a bigger legend than ever

Sergio Busquets, a bigger legend than ever

The FC Barcelona has become the player with the most Clásico appearances (and wins) of all time

After winning the Spanish Super Cup thanks to a 3-1 victory over Real Madrid, Sergio Busquets has become the player with the most appearances in El Clásico and also the most wins in the fixture, putting him up there with some real legends of the game.

Record breaker

His 45 Clásicos are the same as Leo Messi and Sergio Ramos but as he is the only one still at one of the two clubs, he is well-poised to set an absolute record the next time the teams meet. Lurking not too far behind is Karim Benzema, who has played Barça 40 times.

Sergio is also tops is in terms of win in El Clásico. He has tasted victory no fewer than 21 times, more than any other Barça player and only matched by Paco Gento for the all-whites. Messi and Piqué 'only' had 19 wins and Alfredo Di Stéfano had 18.

There is at least one game between the old rivals still to come in the league this season, where Busquets would become the outright leader in appearances if he plays, and also for wins if Barça take all three points.

Title number 31

Sergio Busquets has also moved one ahead of the recently retired Gerard Piqué in the all-time honours list for FC Barcelona. He has now won 31 major trophies, a haul only topped by Iniesta with 32 and Leo Messi with 35.

It was also a 24th title for Sergi Roberto, which moves him ahead of Dani Alves in the ranking, while of the current squad Jordi Alba lies third with 17.
