Barça continue to be well-represented in the Golden Boy 2022 race, with no fewer than 20% of the last twenty players. Pedri González (the winner in 2021), Ansu Fati and Gavi are all still there, as is Nico González, who is being loaned to Valencia this season. The only player to have dropped out since the Top 40 was announced is Alejandro Balde.
The award presented by Italian sports paper Tuttosport goes to the best player aged 20 years and under (i.e born from 2002). That's especially impressive in the cases of last year's winner Pedri, and the runner-up in 2020, Ansu Fati (topped by Haaland), as they were competing against older players.
Since they were created in 2003, there have been three other former winners that played for Barça, namely Leo Messi (2005), Cesc Fàbregas (2006) and Sergio Agüero (2007).
