Ter Stegen has started the season in fine form. After six league games, Real Sociedad is the only team that has scored against him, and only once, and he his now just 56 minutes away from setting a new personal best for an unbeaten run in the competition. And history is on his side because the next game is in Mallorca, where he has never conceded a goal before.
Ter Stegen and clean sheets
The German stopper's first visit to Son Moix was in 2019/20, when Barça won 4-0, while last season's game also ended in a shutout win, 1-0.
Mallorca's is one of three current first division grounds where Ter Stegen has never leaked a single goal. The others are Motilivi (Girona), where he also kept two clean sheets in two visits, and the José Zorrilla (Valladolid), which he has visited no fewer than three times without picking the ball out of the back of the net.
His best La Liga away record, however, is at Alavés, where he has not been beaten in four visits, although Mendizorroza is hosting second division football this season.
After none of Valladolid, Sevilla, Cádiz or Elche managed to get the ball past Ter Stegen, Barça now have the best record in Europe's five highest ranked leagues. Villarreal (two goals against) and Atalanta (three) are the only teams that come close.
It's Barça's second best defensive start to a season of the century. Only the side coached by Luis Enrique in 2014/15 did better, by not letting in a single goal in its first six outings.
Incoming: Personal best
Ter Stegen is on his fifth four-match unbeaten spell in La Liga. But only once, in 2019/20, did he keep up the run for five games. A feat he could repeat with a clean sheet in Mallorca this weekend.
And if he can hold out for 56 minutes, then that will be enough to top his personal best set that same 2019/20, when he was unbeaten for exactly 500 minutes. His current run amounts to a total of 444 minutes.
