FC Barcelona first announced Memphis was joining the Club during the European Championships in summer 2021. The Dutch forward was 27 years old at the time, arriving on a free transfer after five seasons at Olympique Lyonnais.

14 goals for the Club

In his first few months in Barcelona, Memphis quickly won the Spotify Camp Nou crowd over. His goals made him both the reference in attack and a goalscorer.

However, the Netherlands international experienced injury issues that prevented a run in the team, before the Club bolstered its forward options with signings in the winter transfer window during the 21/22 season. Memphis continued to help the team with his goals, however.

Including this season's matches, Memphis scored 14 goals and provided 2 assists in 42 appearances while wearing the Barça jersey.

Second-highest goalscorer for the Netherlands

While at Barça, Memphis became the second-highest goalscorer for his country's national side, scoring his 42nd goal in the famous orange jersey and drawing level with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. He now has 43 goals and is only 7 shy of Robin van Persie, the Netherlands' all-time leading goalscorer.
