February goal frenzy

February goal frenzy

FC Barcelona has scored 15 goals in five games, with ten different players getting on the scoresheet

Barça have certainly hit their goalscoring form. This February has seen them hit the net 15 times in five games, with the game against Athletic Club at the Camp Nou this Sunday still to come (9.00pm CET).

The spree continued on Thursday in Naples with four goals for the second game in a row, and both away from home, after the 4-1 win in Valencia four days earlier.

10 different scorers

There were also four goals in the game against Atlético Madrid (Jordi Alba, Gavi, Araujo and Dani Alves), the first time Barça had scored that many in a game since winning 4-2 against Real Sociedad on the opening day of the Liga season.

Barça then drew 2-2 with Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium (Pedri and Luuk de Jong) before the 1-1 draw in the first leg with Napoli (Ferran Torres).

The four at Mestalla included a hat-trick for Aubameyang plus one for Frenkie de Jong, while the goals at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona were the work of Jordi Alba, Frenkie De Jong, Gerard Piqué and Auba again.

Record breakers: Auba and Piqué

The game Xavi so rightly described as ‘sublime’ saw Piqué become Barça’s oldest goalscorer of all time in European competition (at the age of 35 years and 22 days).

And Auba got to expand on his impressive tally of goals in the Europa League, by getting his first for Barça in a competition in which he is the highest scoring African player of all time.
