Ansu Fati dreaming of 'being a winner at Barça'

Striker discusses his newly extended contract and says he feels under no pressure after inheriting the number famously donned by Leo Messi

“My first option was always to stay at Barça” said Ansu Fati after renewing his contract until 2027. “I am very happy that the club has faith in me. I want to be a winner here.”

He was speaking at a Thursday press conference in the Auditori, where he was joined by club president Joan Laporta, who spoke of “how important today’s event is for the present and future of the club. We are all very happy.”

 

They were also accompanied in the question-and-answer session by the vice-president for sport Rafa Yuste and the director of football Mateu Alemany.

Ansu Fati added that: “I was very happy when the captains offered me the chance to wear number ten. I was willing to do it, but I don’t feel any additional pressure. I k now it will be impossible to achieve what Leo Messi achieved but I ready to give my very best.”

On his comeback from injury, the said that “the knee problem is forgotten and now I just need to get back into the right rhythm. I’m not feeling any bother and I hope things stay that way.”

 

He also admitted that “I have still have lots of room for improvement and I need to listen to the people around me at the club who want to help me. That is part of my daily routine”

Finally, looking ahead to Sunday’s Clásico and beyond, he commented that “we are very ready for the game with Real Madrid. And also to fight for every trophy. The fans are our biggest motivator, so having a full Camp Nou is an extra boost.”
