PREVIEW | FC Barcelona v Getafe

After the Copa Del Rey final win, the blaugranes host the team from Madrid who have opened up the title race again after their draw against Real

The next challenge for Barça in LaLiga is to overcome Getafe (Thursday 22 April, 10.00pm CEST). After the excitement and euphoria of the Copa del Rey win, the team from Madrid visit Camp Nou with Barça needing all three points to keep up the pressure on those teams at the top of the table.

If Barça win all of their remaining fixtures, they'll lift another league title, so José Bordalás' side have their work cut out.

The opponent

Coach: José Bordalás. The coach has only overseen one win in the nine matches he's been in charge of Getafe for against the blaugranes. This came in this season's match at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez (1-0).

Top scorers: Jaime Mata and Ángel have five goals each.

League position: Currently 15th, Getafe are four points above the relegation zone.

Current form: A 0-0 draw against Real Madrid last time out would've given Getafe a boost. However, the team haven't taken all three points in LaLiga since February 27.

Did you know?

Barça lost 0-1 against Getafe in the reverse fixture this season - they have never lost both league games against them in a single campaign.

Getafe have played more away LaLiga games without a win against Barça (P15 D4 L11) than against any other opponent.

Barça are unbeaten in their last 12 LaLiga games at Camp Nou (W9 D3), since the 1-3 defeat vs Real Madrid in October 2020.

Getafe have failed to win in their last six away LaLiga games (D1 L5), without scoring in four of them. They have failed to score in nine away LaLiga matches this season, their highest tally in a single season in the top-flight since 2015-16 (10) when they were relegated.

Lionel Messi (23 goals) has scored more goals in the competition this term than all of Getafe’s players combined (22), but has failed to score in his last three appearances against Getafe at Camp Nou, his longest run without a goal at home against them in the competition, after scoring in his previous five at home vs the Madrilenian side in the top-flight (six goals).

Getafe’s Jaime Mata has been involved in three goals in four LaLiga games against Barça (2 goals and 1 assist), though his side lost three of those four matches (W1).

Precedents

The Camp Nou is an impregnable stadium for Getafe in the league. They've never been able to take all three points from the stadium, and in 15 games they've lost 11 and drawn four.

Griezmann's great run against Getafe

The French striker, who chalked up his 15th goal of the 2020/21 season in the Copa Del Rey final, is on a hot streak against Getafe. In his last nine games against the team from Madrid, he's had a hand in seven goals, the last one coming in Barça's 2-1 victory at the Camp Nou last season.

This fixture also brings two current Getafe players back to Barça; Carles Aleñá and Marc Cucurella.
