Defender Sergiño Dest is currently with the USNMT at their training camp in Austria preparing for friendly fixtures against Jamaica and Northern Ireland. From the national's team Central European base, the FC Barcelona player spoke to the media about his new role in Ronald Koeman's team as a wing back, training with Leo Messi, scoring his first la Liga goals and being at the perfect club to 'develop my game'. Some of the highlights from his press conference:
"I was really, really happy to score two goals in the game. I think I needed it after hitting the bar against PSG and the crossbar against Sevilla. So finally it came and it was important to get the second and third goals for the team and we pulled off a really good result so we have to continue like this."
"I am playing with the best in the game, in training you just look at him to see what he does, it’s unbelievable. I try to take a few things from him and I try to learn from all the players, it is really good for my development and I think I am in the right place to reach my potential."
"I think this system fits the whole team well. For me especially, I think it’s better because I have a man behind and I am a player who likes to take risks, that’s how I play at my best. We are winning and scoring a lot of goals so I think it’s a really good system."
"In the new system the coach said to me if you can just go and attack, go, and that is something that suits me really well, my strengths are my attacking abilities so I feel I can risk more in the game. So, personally, I am really happy with the system and I think I can grow in the position."
"I have developed a lot at Barça, and I think the system we are using right now is something that suits me really well."
