Barça's Canary Islander speaks to the media after joining the men's national team for the first time
Pedri, who has been called up for the senior Spain squad for the first time ever, spoke to the press on Tuesday and had special words of gratitude for Ronald Koeman:
"He trusted me from the very first day. I’m very grateful to him, because if it wasn't for Koeman I wouldn’t be in this squad. He’s a coach who likes to give young players a chance … I want to return the faith he had in me."
"Since the first day my team-mates have been good to me. I want to enjoy the experience and learn from the players who have the most international caps."
"Because I know Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and players from the U21s it has all been much easier. The other players are all magnificent people."
"I received loads of messages congratulating me on my first call-up. Andrés Iniesta and Leo Messi were among them."
"I can connect with a lot of players, not just Messi. There are some top quality players in the Spain squad and I’m sure we will understand each other."
"I want to be myself. Pedri. But it is an honour to be compared to Andrés Iniesta"
"I love Luis Enrique’s style of play. I’m looking forward to learning a lot and adapting so I can offer the best I can."
