Leo Messi wins the 2020 Values Award

The Argentine has been one of the winners for his help in building the "largest oncology pediatric centre at the Hospital de Sant Joan de Déu"

The third edition of the Sports Values Gala, organised by the newspaper SPORT and Prensa Ibérica, gave the Values Award of 2020, in the category of international athlete, to Barça first-team player, Leo Messi.

The jury, headed by the director of the newspaper SPORT, Albert Sáez; the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco; and the president of LaLiga, Javier Tebas, has decided to award the prize to Messi "for having made the construction of the largest oncology pediatric centre in the world at the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu possible with his donations."

The other winners of the Values 2020 Awards were Rafa Nadal, as a male athlete, and Carolina Marín, in the female category.. 

More Barça awards

In this third edition of the Values Awards, the work of the Gasol Brothers Foundation in its fight against childhood obesity has also been recognised. There was also a very special award given by the jury to former Barça player and coach, Juan Carlos Unzué, for his fight against ALS. 

Xavi Hernández has received the Values Legend Award, for the promotion of fair play throughout his career, and the former Barça basketball coach Aíto García Reneses has received the Values Coach Award, after coaching for half a century.
