Marc Ter Stegen wins 2019/20 Aldo Rovira Award

German goalkeeper named player of the season following a remote meeting at lunchtime today

Marc Ter Stegen has been announced as the winner of the Aldo Rovira Award as the best FC Barcelona player of the 2019/20 season, as decided by a jury made up leading media figures. Now into its eleventh year, the prize was created by former director Josep Lluís Rovira to honour his son Aldo, who was killed in a motorbike accident on 18 March 2009 at the age of 37.

The goalkeeper was named at an online meeting attended by Rovira and his son Borja, together with Barça president Josep Maria Bartomeu and the jury members made up of directors, department heads or, in their absence, representatives of the leading media firms in the city of Barcelona.

The award has been dominated over the years by Leo Messi, winner of six of the previous ten editions. Last year it was won by Gerard Piqué, and this is the first time it has ever been given to a goalkeeper.
