Previous meetings with Elche, LaLiga's newest team

All of the teams that will be part of LaLiga in the 2020/21 season are now known. After the promotions of Cádiz and Huesca, this Sunday it was the turn of Elche, who managed to defeat Girona in the final of the play-offs to get promoted. They return to the Spanish top flight after being relegated at the end of the 2014/15 season.

The most recent precedents

Barça played four matches against Elche during their last stage in LaLiga in 2013/14 and 2014/15. Three of those were Barça victories (two at the Camp Nou - 4-0 and 3-0 - and a 0-6 at Martínez Valero) as well as a 0-0 draw at home. A Round of 16 Copa del Rey tie was also contested in the 2014/15 season, with Luis Enrique's Barça winning 9-0 overall.

These six most recent precedents came 25 years after the last time the teams played each other, in a 1988/89 league match at the Camp Nou which Johan Cruyff's Barça won 2-0 with goals from Bakero and Amor.

On that day, Elche's coach was none other than former Barça legend, Ladislau Kubala.
