The shortlist for the 2019 Ballon d'Or, organised by France Football magazine, was revealed on Monday evening. Messi is the recent winner of 'The Best' award, and is up for an award that he has won on five occasions (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2015): The first was when France Football decided the honour, with the others a collaboration ceremony between the French publication and FIFA.

Lieke Martens was the recipient of 'The Best' prize from FIFA in 2017. This is her first nomination in a category that France Football are running for the second time.
