Solskjaer: 'The tie will be decided at Camp Nou'

The Manchester United coach adds "Leo Messi is a fantastic player and one of the best in history"

“We know that we have to be at our best,” said Manchester United coach Ole Gunner Solksjaer on Tuesday in his appearance before the press ahead of the first leg of the quarter final tie against FC Barcelona at Old Trafford. “All will be decided at Camp Nou and we have to do our best tomorrow to get a good result ahead of the return leg,” added the Norwegian.

Doubts in the squad

The former Manchester United striker went on to say that Nemenja Matic, Ander Herrera and Marcos Rashford are all doubts for the game against Barça on Wednesday due to injury. “We hope Nemanja can play but Ander Herrera will probably be missing. Antonio Valencia and Eric Bailly are both ruled out,” said Solksjaer before adding the latest on striker Rashford who “took part in the final part of the session today; tomorrow we will see.”

“Leo Messi is a fantastic player”

The Manchester United coach was inevitably asked about Leo Messi. “He’s a fantastic player and he will be remembered as one of the best players in history. It’s difficult to stop him but not impossible. It’s not just Messi, there are other great players as well,” said Solskjaer.

The man who scored the dramatic winner for United in the 1999 Champions League final at Camp Nou also had words for a former teammate in Gerard Piqué. “He arrived at a young age to Manchester United and he was unfortunate to coincide with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, one of the best centre back partnerships that I have ever seen. I am happy for him and all the trophies he has won in his career,” concluded the Manchester United coach.
