The Johan Cruyff stadium is now up and running after the opening ceremony and a full 90 minute match at the first piece in the Espai Barça puzzle. The FC Barcelona U19A side took on their Ajax equivalents on an evening that was a tribute to the Dutch legend. Unfortunately, the Barça youngsters were unable to celebrate the occasion with a victory as goals from Naci Unuvar either side of half time gave the visitors the win in a game in which Victor Valdes' team created chances but were unable to take them.
After an even opening half hour, Nico almost gave Barça the lead with a shot that flew just inches over the bar. Ajax's response was to take the lead thanks to a low, well placed shot on 37 minutes from Naci Unuvar.
In the second half the game followed a similar pattern; the blaugranes went close before the Dutch struck once again. In the 77th minute Naci Unuvar once again found the net to give the side coached by former blaugrana Ronald de Boer a 2-0 lead. Barça never threw in the towel as they attempted to come back but in the end it was Ajax who took the win on a night that will be remembered for the first ever game at the new Johan Cruyff stadium.
