Versatility and attacking intelligence

It was 1999, the beginning of Barça's centenary year, and two top quality reinforcements arrived in January to bolster the team coached by Louis Van Gaal at the time. Twin brothers Frank and Ronald de Boer joined after a successful spell at Ajax, having won everything, and Ronald de Boer came to add to the blaugrana attack. He played 55 games for Barça, scoring 3 goals over his two years with the club, with more opportunities limited by competition from forwards such as Figo, Rivaldo and Kluivert. He left for Scotland in January 2001, joining Rangers, where he stayed for four seasons before heading to Qatar, playing first for Al Rayyan in the 2004/5 season. His final three seasons as a professional player were spent at Al-Shamal before he hung up his boots in 2008 aged almost 38 years old.

He also got 67 caps for the Netherlands, scoring 13 goals, including playing at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups and the 1996 and 2000 European Championships.
