Andrés Iniesta came to La Masia at FC Barcelona at the age of 12 from his home town of Fuentealbilla in Castilla La Mancha. The midfielder dreamt of playing for Barça as a youngster but probably never imagined that he would make 674 appearances for the first time, winning 32 trophies over 16 seasons before ending his career at the age of 40 following spells in Japan and the UAE.
After showing his talent as a youngster with his local club Albacete, Iniesta caught the attention of FC Barcelona and arrived at La Masia in 1996. After overcoming early settling in problems, the midfielder quickly progressed through the age categories before making his debut for the first team under Louis van Gaal in a Champions League against Club Brugge in 2002. The following season under coach Frank Rijkaard the midfielder became part of the squad and in the 2006 Champions League final his appearance in the second half swung the game in Barça's favour.
It was not until the 2006/07 campaign that he started to be a regular in the starting line up. Alongside Xavi Hernández, and later Sergio Busquets, Iniesta formed part in one of the most important midfield trios in football history. After 674 appearances and 32 trophies, including 9 league titles and 4 Champions League titles, in 2018 he said goodbye to Barça to sign for Vissel Kobe in Japan. After 5 seasons in the J-League, the midfielder ended his career with a spell at Emirates Club in the UAE.
With Spain Iniesta was crowned a World Cup winner in 2010 and European Champion in 2008 and 2012.
