mini_JUAN CARLOS MORENO
Homegrown success story

A player who could play either as a winger, an advanced midfielder or as a second striker, Juan Carlos was a technically gifted footballer who started at the Club aged 10 years old. He progressed through the youth system and was part of the so-called “La lleva del mini” Barça B side that included talents such as Oscar and Roger Garcia Junyent, Toni Velamazán, Celades, Quique Álvarez and Ivan De La Peña. He played for the first team for one season (1995-96), notably scoring a brace in a Copa game against Numancia. He then went back to play for Barça B, before moving on to other Segunda Division sides, before finally hanging up his boots at FC Cartagena.

After a long spell in the FC Barcelona youth system, culminating in playing for the development side, Juan Carlos Moreno made his first-team debut in the first game of the 1995/1996 season at the Nuevo José Zorrilla stadium against Valladolid. Johan Cruyff sent him on to replace the injured Ángel Cuellar in the 40th minute. Barça went on to win 0-2. A particular memory from Moreno's time at Barça was the Copa del Rey match against Numancia in 1996. The first leg away at the Los Pajaritos stadium saw Cruyff's side earn a 2-2 draw with the then 20-year-old forward Juan Carlos Moreno scoring both. Despite performing well every time with the first team, an influx of signings saw him return to the development side, before he finally left the Club for Albacete in the Segunda Division for the 1997/98 season. He returned to Catalonia after a year to join Lleida for 3 seasons, which included a loan period to Recreativo Huelva. Two brief spells at Extremadura and Terrassa followed, before he joined Numancia, where played the most number of seasons and obtained the regular playing time that every footballer craves, helping the club to win the Segunda Division in 2008. After seven seasons in Soria, including the last on loan to FC Cartagena, Juan Carlos Moreno retired from football in 2010.
