Barça Atlètic had to dig deep to take the three points from their visit to the Narcís Sala, home of one of the strongest sides in their division, Sant Andreu, and which was packed to the rafters to enjoy this Sunday night derby.

Urged on by their vociferous fans, the home side forced Barça to sweat for 83 minutes, and just when it looked like the blaugrana defence might not be able to hold out for much longer, Sama Nomoko did what the yellow-and-reds had failed to do so many times, and found the back of the net.

The three points leave Barça joint top of the league with nine points.

Team of circumstances

Between injuries, players off at the U20 World Cup and others called up to the first team, Belletti was forced to field a very different looking team to usual. Among them was debutant goalkeeper Emilio Bernad, who proved to be one of the standout players with a number of top-notch saves, including a splendid intervention to deny Sergi Serrano and ensure the first half ended goalless.

It was after the interval that things really started heating up, and it Sant Andreu who were managing to create the most chances out of a tough, physical battle. Both Alexis and Max Marcet came dangerously close to the deadlock, and among Belletti's ploys to get the game back on course was his decision to hand a Barça Atlètic debut to Àlex Campos in the middle of defence.

Sama delivers the final blow

But nobody had a bigger impact on the game than Sama Nomoko. The speedy winger entered for the second half, and almost scored with a lob, brilliantly blocked by Iñaki, set up Gistau for a near certain goal that the home keeper also kept out, and then finally gave Barça the breakthrough they needed by collecting a perfect defence-splitting pass from Xavi Espart and slipping the ball home through Iñaki’s legs.

In all fairness, however, other than those flashes of brilliance from Sama, it was Sant Andreu who had generally been on top in the second half, and there seemed to be a conviction among the home fans that the winning goal was on the way. It was, but it wouldn't be for them.

Barça Atlètic now had an unexpected prize in their grasp and just needed to hold on. Sant Andreu were raging for final minutes, but squandered a number of fine opportunities and even hit the crossbar, but Barça not only survived but almost sneaked a double bonus when Xavi Espart struck the post right at the end.

Not many teams are going to win at the Narcis Sala this season. But Barça Atlètic did and now find themselves joint leaders of the table.
