FC Barcelona B 1-1 Linares Deportivo: Late penalty frustration

A spot kick in second half injury time turns three points into just one at the Estadi Johan Cruyff

Barça B were unable to capitalise on their lead this Saturday afternoon and ended up having to settle for a draw after conceding a penalty at the final breath. Linares were outplayed from start to finish, but it’s goals that count in this game and it was a frustrating way for a good day’s work to end at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.

Barça B pegged Linares in their own half for much of the game and the chances flowed thick and fast. Matheus almost scored from one of his trademark angled strikes, and Ez Abde and Ferran Jutglà were both outstanding in attack, the former with some furious runs and the latter with majestic reading of the space, but despite all their efforts, the deadlock to a long time to finally get broken.

And it had to come from those two.  Abde sped down the left and weaved his way into position to deliver a deadly low pass straight to the feet of the master goal poacher Ferran Jutglà and that was Barça ahead at last with 20 minutes left to make sure things stayed that way.

Linares finally sprung to life from that point on, but didn’t cause any real threat until the very end, in a move that saw a penalty awarded for an Ndiaye foul. It also earned the Senegalese full back a red card for a second bookable offence

Hugo Díaz kept his cool to convert the spot kick and the game ended 1-1.
