Today is 25 November, the date designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which aims to raise awareness among society about the different forms of violence women suffer worldwide, including physical, sexual, psychological and domestic violence.
On such an important date, FC Barcelona is again showing its commitment to the fight against male violence against women, and new initiatives that involve the entire blaugrana family have been promoted via the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department. The slogan this year of “Barça, a club, a voice for everyone's fight” forms the basis for activities that go beyond the sporting domain as usual.
Minute's silence at the Spotify Camp Nou and Palau Blaugrana
Firstly, there was a minute's silence in memory of every woman killed through male violence against women last weekend at the Spotify Camp Nou and in the Palau Blaugrana before Barça v Athletic Club and Barça v Viveros Herol BM Nava in the Liga Asobal respectively. The initiative is promoted by the National Sports Council and the Ministry for Equality.
Self-defence workshop for women
Internally, FC Barcelona has organised a self-defence workshop for female staff, designed to raise awareness, prevent and react when risky or uncomfortable situations are encountered. It was split over two days on 19 November and today 25 November. The workshop goes beyond simply physical techniques and participants can reconnect with their own strength, set limits and regain confidence in their bodies and intuition.

Barça Foundation and UN Women project
Furthermore, the Barça Foundation is also commemorating International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women alongside UN Women, an institution that works to promote social cohesion, gender equality and the prevention of violence against women and children in Colón province, Panama, with sport used as a tool for social transformation.
Both organisations use sport as a driver for social change, particularly communities affected by inequality, migration and violence. The project aims to help to create safe, inclusive settings where human rights are respected, promoting leadership by migrant, refugee, indigenous, and Afro-descendant adult women, young women and girls.
FC Barcelona and 25 November
FC Barcelona is involved in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women celebrated on 25 November every year. This is shown through awareness activities, internal training, and integration into the statutes, materialised via different initiatives that include the most important audiences and proponents of the Club, namely the male and female players from the different professional teams, as well as Club staff.
25 November
November 25 was declared the International Day Against Gender-Based Violence during the first Feminist Meeting of Latin America and the Caribbean held in Bogota (Colombia) in 1981. In 1999, the United Nations officially recognised this date, which was picked in memory of the Mirabal sisters, political activists murdered in the Dominican Republic in 1960.
