Today 18 June, FC Barcelona held the ordinary meeting for the Senate, the club’s statutory, honorary and consultative body made up of the one thousand longest-serving members. The meeting saw 328 senators in attendance at the Auditori 1899 and was chaired by Joan Laporta. The president was joined by vice-presidents Rafael Yuste, Elena Fort and Antonio Escudero, and the rest of the Board of Directors.
In his report, president Laporta concluded that during the more than four years of mandate of his Board of Directors, the Club has been restored through five main goals being achieved, namely to increase income, reduce costs, prevent risks to the member ownership model, avoid the financial recovery implying a cost to members, and to make FC Barcelona fans happy again, coinciding with the 125th anniversary celebration.

After thanking members for their support during a season involving striving “against everything and everyone”, Laporta assured that he sees FC Barcelona fans happy, stating “FC Barcelona fans are smiling, happy and proud again”. The president rated the season as “historic, but not perfect” and highlighted sporting director Deco and first-team coach Hansi Flick as the architects of the success. He also made a point of mentioning the value of having a squad full of young, very talented players, many of whom came through La Masia, plus others brought in from elsewhere.
The FC Barcelona president confirmed that the entity is financially robust again and promised to continue working so that no other board has to suffer what they have been through to put the Club on a sound financial footing. As Joan Laporta announced, these efforts to regain financial security mean Barça can operate normally in accordance with the 1:1 financial fair play rule this summer.

Regarding the return to the Spotify Camp Nou, the president made a point of stating that this is not a refurbishment, but the building of a new stadium. Laporta stated that the plan is to be back playing again there for the Joan Gamper Trophy on 10 August. Regarding the season ticket system for members, he explained that the model used at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys will remain in place. The Club will provide further details in due course.
The president's speech was being shown live on Barça One, and he was followed by the vice-president for the Sporting Area Rafael Yuste and the vice-president of the Institutional Area Elena Fort. The meeting ended with an open floor Q&A for senators.
