Awards for FC Barcelona at Mundo Deportivo Gala

FC Barcelona was among the entities honoured at Monday's 77th Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya. On a magic-themed evening, the event showcased some of the greatest sporting moments and people of 2024.
125th Anniversary Honour
FC Barcelona, as an institution in such a special year as its 125th anniversary was honoured, with plenty of representatives among the attendees, including president Joan Laporta, who collected the special prize "for being a universal benchmark in sport and more than a club, exporting its values and the singularity of La Masia". Also present were vice-presidents Elena Fort and Antonio Escudero and five board members, namely Xavier Barbany, Josep-Ignasi Macià, Aurelio Mas, Xavier Puig and Joan Solé.
Olympic and Euro 24 champions
There were also plenty of different sportspeople. Fermín López, Pau Cubarsí and Eric Garcia were among the players who collected an award for the gold medal winning men's football team, together with Joan Garcia of Espanyol and coach Santi Denia. Fermín would be back on the stage shortly after with Dani Olmo, Pedri and Ferran Torres, as winners of football's European Championship.
Solidarity and implication of Ferran Torres
One of the most emotional moments came when Ferran Torres, together with car racer Laia Sanz, collected a symbolic award for their active participation in the reconstruction of areas that suffered flood damage in Valencia. "It was one of the toughest things I have ever experienced" said the forward. "This is award is for the victims, their families and all the volunteers."
Aitana and women's football
The Barça women's football team was naturally there too, with Cata Coll and Aitana Bonmatí wining for trophies with Barça and the Nations League with Spain. There was also a special individual prize for the recent second-time Ballon d'Or winner.
Athlete Jordan Díaz
It wasn't just Barça football who were honoured. The club's athlete Jordan Díaz, who won triple jump gold at the Paris Olympics, having also been crowned European champion with the third longest jump of all time, was also on stage.
