Spotify and FC Barcelona make history again: Barça kit for El Clásico to feature the Rolling Stones iconic tongue and lips logo

The emblem of the British band will replace the Spotify logo on the legendary FC Barcelona kit to celebrate the release of the British band’s “Hackney Diamonds” album

FC Barcelona and Spotify have done it again. The jersey Barça will wear for El Clásico on 28 October will once again become an iconic garment that is set to grab worldwide attention. The Tongue and Lips logo of The Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood) will replace the Spotify logo on the legendary FC Barcelona kit, putting the band that has played the iconic stages of the world on the global stage of El Clásico for the first time.

The Rolling Stones’ iconic sound has been the backdrop for listeners worldwide on Spotify, soundtracking the lives of fans near and far, young and old, which more than justifies them featuring on the Barça jersey. However, they have been chosen now because their latest album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, is being released on 20 October and is their first album of original material in 18 years. A long-awaited and triumphant return some eighteen years later.

In addition to on the jersey for the Barça v Real Madrid game on 28 October at the Estadi Lluis Companys, the Stones’ Tongue and Lips logo will also feature on the front of the women’s jersey for the Liga F game against Sevilla on 5 November at Estadi Johan Cruyff.

The players and The Rolling Stones read it in the press

In a video that’s released on Thursday via the FC Barcelona and Spotify social media channels, the first team players receive this stunning news via a newspaper that falls on Pedri on the training pitch, with Lewandowski, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal looking on in surprise. As the video shows, the newspaper is distributed around the world, even reaching the band members’ home, who read the article with interest with their song Start Me Up playing in the background.

To celebrate El Clásico and to take a deeper dive into rock music, Spotify have created a new “Matchday Playlist”, featuring great rock music tracks, including of course, some of the Rolling Stones’ signature tunes.

Jerseys and merchandising go on sale on 23 October

The Stones appearing on the Barça jersey is one of those things that happens just once in a lifetime. Therefore, to give it the place in history it deserves, two exclusive matchday jersey editions will go on sale on 23 October so you can have your own authentic collector’s item at home.

The FC Barcelona x The Rolling Stones Limited Edition is a batch of 1899 matchday quality jerseys, while the more exclusive FC Barcelona x The Rolling Stones Signed Limited Edition will comprise just 22 jerseys, also matchday quality, but with the signatures of each player who starts the El Clásico and the Liga F match. Advance purchasing for these garments is available via the Club’s website.

In addition to matchday jerseys, both Barça and Rolling Stone fans will be able to purchase items from a limited edition lifestyle collection of clothing featuring the logos of the Rolling Stones, Spotify and Barça, which will also go on sale on 23 October. This will include t-shirts, bucket hats, hoodies, etc; some must-have items for any music-lover’s wardrobe.

A special blaugrana edition of ‘Hackney Diamonds’

The Stones’ new album, ‘Hackney Diamonds’, will also be released as a special blaugrana edition. From 20 October, the Rolling Stones’ website will have a limited edition package available for purchase, which will include the album in vinyl, printed with the Barça crest and the Stones’ Tongue and Lips logo, plus a Barça retro jersey, inspired by the fashion during the early 1960s when the band formed, which features the Club crest and the British band’s logo.

This activation is an example of how the partnership with Barça is bigger than just branding. We’re giving platforms to artists and their work in a way that’s not been done before. Whether through Matchday Songs curated by Barça players or through Spotify Camp Nou LEDs, Spotify is using the partnership to truly bring the worlds of music and sports together.
