Third league 'double' in Club history

Third league 'double' in Club history

The men's and women's football teams are league champions in the same season, an event that had happened just twice before

A great season for football at Barça. For the third time in the Club's history, the men's and women's football first teams have claimed the league title. FC Barcelona's signature style of play has been present in both campaigns and has brought amazing consistency from Jonatan Giráldez and Xavi Hernández's teams. Barça and Barça Women have had great campaigns in the league, claiming the title with four games still to spare in both cases.

The two teams have set many a record on their way to victory. Xavi Hernández's side have excelled in defence, keeping 25 clean sheets and conceding just 13 goals. Jonatan Giráldez's team have gone 62 games without defeat with 28 wins and a draw in the league with one game still to play, scoring 117 goals and conceding just eight.

The other two precedents

The other two seasons in which the men's and women's teams both won the league title came in 2012/13 and in 2014/15. In 2013 the men's team claimed their 22nd league title without playing following Real Madrid's draw against Espanyol. The women's team were crowned champions on the final weekend of the season with a win against Athletic Club.

In 2015 the men's team took the league title in the middle of May on their to winning the second treble in the team's history. The women's team claimed their fourth league title in a row with a win against Atlético Madrid.

League and Super Cup, the most repeated double

This season the men's team has wo the league and the Spanish Super Cup, the seventh time the Club has achieved such a feat after success in 1992 and 1993 under Johan Cruyff, 2006 with Frank Rijkaard, 2010 and 2011 with Pep Guardiola as boss and most recently in 2019 with Ernesto Valverde.
