FC Barcelona and Prime Video present 'FC Barcelona, a new era', a documentary series that reveals the ins and outs of the last two years of the club seen from the perspective of the first team. Produced by Barça Studios, it covers the process of rebuilding the squad in a period of economic and institutional recovery. A story that begins when Barça experienced one of the most painful results in its history, the 8-2 loss in Lisbon to Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and ends with the 2022/23 preseason and the signing of new players, led by Robert Lewandowski.

Produced by Barça Studios, the 'FC Barcelona, a new era' docuseries consists of five 30-minute episodes and will premiere worldwide in December exclusively on Prime Video.

Historical moments

On August 14, 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, the end of an extraordinary cycle ended. It began in 2004, a turning point for the club that, months later, would culminate in the presidential elections and the election of Joan Laporta and the current Board of Directors, who opted for a new executive structure with Mateu Alemany and Jordi Cruyff at the helm, and, finally, with the incorporation of Xavi Hernández as manager.

The docuseries includes moments seen from within such as the Quique Setién era, the departure of Luis Suárez, Leo Messi's distancing from Josep María Bartomeu's board of directors, the Argentine's last season at the club, the arrival of President Laporta and his new board, Messi's emotional goodbye, the end of the Ronald Koeman era and the signing of Xavi as the new coach.

As the documentary series shows, Xavi's arrival was crucial for the team's recovery in La Liga and rebuilding the squad, with new blood injected by winter market signings in January 2022, which brought the arrivals of Aumabeyang, Ferran Torres, Dani Alves and Adama Traoré.

The series ends with the hope aroused among Barça fans with Lewandowski, Kounde, Christensen, Kessie, Marcos Alonso, Bellerín and Pablo Torre, as well as Ousmane Dembélé's renewed contract.

The production was supported by the players and coaching staff, especially the new coach himself, including some of his team-talks in the dressing room, even on his debut in the derby against Espanyol and before the victory in the Bernabeu Clásico. But it also brings such special moments as Pedri winning the Kopa and Golden Boy awards, Ansu Fati dealing with a difficult recovery from injury and making such a spectacular comeback, and Gavi graduating from the youth team to be such a huge hit at senior level.

President Joan Laporta and the club's financial recovery also feature as part of the narrative, which brilliantly depicts the renewed mood of excitement among the fans and how the Spotify Camp Nou started to fill again.
