Former blaugrana Cesc Fàbregas supports UNCHR/ACNUR partnership with FC Barcelona and the Foundation

Player joined in Milan by director general of the Foundation, Dr Marta Segú

FC Barcelona and its Foundation's alliance with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR/ACNUR,was promoted this Tuesday at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan. Former player Cesc Fàbregas, who collaborates with the agency, and Dr Marta Segú posed together the team shirt that bears the UNHCR/ACNUR logo on the back, as is being worn this season by the men's and women's first teams, and the Barça Foundation Genuine team too, all part of the club's agreement signed with the agency last June in Geneva.

A product of the FC Barcelona youth system, Cesc Fàbregas returned to Catalonia in 2011/12 after a glittering spell at Arsenal. In two seasons, at Barça he won a number of major titles, including La Liga and the Copa del Reiy. He is currently playing for Como in Italian Serie B.

The alliance between both institutions and the various actions that are being carried out and will be carried out in the future are also gestures to send a message of solidarity to the world in support of more than 100 million people, many of them children, who have been forced to flee their countries. The global popularity of Barça and the power of sport and football can be used as platform to raise awareness of the difficult plight of refugees around the world.

The alliance with UNHNR/UNHCR involves joint projects with the FC Barcelona Foundation to implement projects in four countries that host refugees and displaced people: Colombia, Uganda, Turkey and Malaysia.
