Reverter: 'This board has a credible plan that will make Barça the best club in the world'

CEO Ferran Reverter sets out the bases for recovery, grounded on the areas that have put Barça at the forefront, such as La Masia and the team's style, and also having the finest athletes, best facilities with Espai Barça and financial and sporting sustainability

FC Barcelona CEO, Ferran Reverter, has set out the plans involved in the 2020/21 Strategic Plan, the club's roadmap into the future, at the press conference that publicly exposed the results of the Due Diligence and closure of accounts for the season just ended.

"This board has a plan" he says. "A plan that investors have bought into and that has also got us out of the debt that we were talking about. So this plan is highly credible and is intended for FC Barcelona to continue to be the best club."

"FC Barcelona is a resilient club by nature. FC Barcelona has gone through many crises. FC Barcelona has been on the verge of disappearing, great players have left, great coaches have left. But the club has always come out of it, and in fact it has always come back stronger."

"FC Barcelona must continue to count on the things that have made it great. That have put it at the forefront. And here we could focus on three pillars."

"The first is La Masia and the Barça style. However, today it is not enough. And we must add sporting excellence, for our Ciutat Esportiva to be a high-performance centre, and for our athletes to be the best athletes. The best players, of course, but also the best athletes. We will develop different medical, nutritional and also psychological disciplines. A very important pillar to add to high performance."

"Then, to modernise our facilities. Barça always had the best facilities. Unfortunately we cannot say that today. But Espai Barça is crucial for FC Barcelona. The revenue it will generate. Espai Barça is not just a stadium. It's not just the Palau. It is a very special space, which I hope we can present to you shortly, in the coming weeks, or months. And especially before Christmas. It is fundamental."

"And finally, we have to look for new revenue. And we will get it, focusing on our fans. FC Barcelona's greatest asset is its supporters, its fans. We have more than 400 million fans, we are number 1 in the world. What we need to do is get to know them and interact with them differently. In fact, we are already beginning to do so. We’re changing the way we interact with them, we’re starting to get to know them better, creating databases to understand them. And new businesses are appearing like Tokens, NFTs… we are going into e-sports."

"And all that we have to do, and it will make Barça recover, and this must be done in a sustainable way. And that word is very important because sustainability must first be economic, we must ensure that this never happens again. A sustainable payroll, which also means player salaries. We believe in the hybrid model of La Masia, but with the best players in the world. Barça will once again have the best players in the world. And we’re not talking about 5 or 10 years. The best players in the world will soon be playing here again. And the environment. Espai Barça must set an example in this area."

"I would simply say that, basically, if we do all this and continue to apply the FC Barcelona values (humility, effort, teamwork, respect and ambition), I'm sure we will put FC Barcelona back in the place it deserves to be."
