Barça to play Joan Gamper Trophy at Estadi Johan Cruyff on August 8

Catalan government allows stadium to open for games with Juventus with the capacity limited to 3,000 spectators

FC Barcelona will have to change the venue of the Joan Gamper Trophy as a result of Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the Government of Catalonia. The games to be played by the men’s team and, for the first time, the women’s team too, both against Juventus, will now be played on August 8 at the Ciutat Esportiva rather than the Camp Nou.

The Estadi Johan Cruyff can be used to stage the event, with a maximum of 3,000 spectators allowed in, in accordance with the local government’s regulations on venues with a capacity for less than 15,000 people. The club will be announcing the terms and conditions for the reviewed ticket sales procedure in the next few days.

This new situation has arisen after Barça was originally given the go-head to hold the games in the Camp Nou with 20% capacity. The club will now be opening a procedure whereby fans that purchased tickets for the games at Camp Nou can be reimbursed what they have paid. 14,000 tickets had been sold for the game, and the return process will commence next Tuesday.

Meanwhile, from talks between Barça and the Generalitat it would appear that there is full commitment to allowing the Camp Nou to open its doors again, albeit with capacity restrictions, on August 15 in time for the first game of the Liga season at home to Real Sociedad.
