Tuesday 27 August is the big day when FC Barcelona officially opens the Johan Cruyff, Stadium. The first stage of the Espai Barça project, the 6,000 capacity ground will mainly be used to host Barça B, Barça Women and UEFA Youth League games.

There will be a host of activities inside and outside the venue to celebrate the grand occasion, including an opening ceremony and a game between the FC Barcelona and Ajax youth teams.

The programme is as follows (all times local):

  • 6.30 pm. Tailgate party outside the stadium
  • 7.30 pm. Gates open
  • 8.30 pm. Opening ceremony inside the stadium
  • 9.00 pm. FC Barcelona v Ajax Amsterdam U19 friendly
  • 10.45 pm. Day ends

First part of Espai Barça

The Johan Cruyff Stadium will replace the current Miniestadi, which will be demolished to make way for the New Palau Blaugrana. Located on the outskirts of metropolitan Barcelona in Sant Joan Despí, it will be the star attraction of the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training facility, just 8.5 km from the Camp Nou, and well connected to the city centre and also the surrounding towns.

The stunning asymmetric design (based on that of the historic Carrer Industria ground where Barça played early in the 20th century) includes a 1,000 capacity main grandstand and a lower tier for 5,000 spectators, all under a roof.

Sold out

Tickets for the game went on sale to members on August 5 and such was the demand that there were more applications that seats available. That means there will be no tickets going on sale to the general public. This is an occasion that nobody wants to miss!

Shuttle bus

Those of you who are lucky enough to have tickets should bear in mind that there is NO parking at Sant Joan Despí on the day of the inauguration. We advise fans to come on public transport. There will be free parking at the Camp Nou stadium, and a free shuttle bus to the venue before the game and also back again after the final whistle.
