Aleksander Sekulic presented as new basketball coach
Aleksander Sekulic has begun his Barça journey. The club's facilities provided the backdrop for the Slovenian coach's official presentation as he embarks on a new chapter in his career after signing for FC Barcelona until 30 June 2028.
The event was attended by president Joan Laporta, the Board member responsible for the basketball section, Sisco Pujol, and the section's new sporting director, Xevi Pujol.
48-year-old Sekulic arrives at the club with extensive international experience and the challenge of leading the Barça project.
A great honour
On a very special day, Aleksander Sekulic was officially welcomed to the club and took part in the traditional photo session wearing the Barça shirt. Posing in his new colours, the new head coach expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead: "It is an honour to be the coach of one of the best clubs in Europe."
The Slovenian also said he hopes "to live up to expectations" and that he is arriving in "the best league in Europe ... I don't like talking about individuals. I believe every player has to contribute so that we play as one unit, as one team."
United team
Asked about Barça's new signings, he replied: "We believe the new players can play the way we want this team to play. We'll need time, but we have talent and quality."
When asked whether the club was looking to bring in more players, he added: "I think we have a strong, competitive squad, but we're always open to adding new faces if they're the right fit."
Speaking about the fans, he said: "I think success will be when the fans recognise and are happy with our style of play. Titles would be the reward for that style ... Playing together, with great understanding, at a high tempo, enjoying plenty of possession, defending aggressively and fighting hard on the court."
Palau energy
Finally, he sent a message to the Barça supporters: "The team will need the support and energy of the Palau Blaugrana. I've been to the Palau as a fan and I've felt it. I want the fans to get behind us from the very beginning, so that the players can feel their support."
