Tough defeat for the Barça basketball team in their visit to Fontajau as they went down 96-78 against Girona in week six of the ACB league. The blaugranes were behind from the get go against their local rivals despite 18 points from Willy Hernángomez. 

The game started off with both sides searching for the advantage but midway through the first period Girona upped the tempo, outscoring Barça 18-3 to take a 24-12 lead. Despite a time out to regroup, the blaugranes still trailed at 30-18 at the start of the second quarter. 

No joy on offense 

Barça sought to strengthen there present on defense in the second period and stopped Girona from scoring during a four minute spell. However, the blaugranes failed to take advantage in attack and once the home side found their range they extended their lead to 14 points, leading 47-33 at half time. 

The second half saw more of the same with Girona racking up a 22 point lead at 59-37 before heading into the final quarter 77-54 up, a 23 point deficit for the blaugranes. 

Barça regained their composure in the final quarter somewhat with two three pointers for Brizuela and Punter brought them to within 16 at 79-63. However, Girona took a time out to regroup and regained a +20 lead before closing out a 96-78 win against the blaugranes.

Barça now have to focus on Wednesday's visit to Bayern Munich in the Euroleague before they welcome Virtus de Bologna on Friday in the Palau Blaugrana in the same competition.
