Léo Westermann will join Barça until June 30, 2022. The 28-year-old Frenchman, 1.98m, arrives on a free transfer after agreeing to leave Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
Westermann is a tall point guard with a big reach, the ability to lead the team and also to create chances for his team-mates. He also has very good scoring percentages, particularly with the triple, and is excellent at blocking off opponents.
In his career he has played a total of 139 games in the Euroleague - Partizan (14), Limoges (20), Zalgiris (57), CSKA (17), Fenerbahce (31) - with an average of 6.6 points per game and a 39% success rate from the outside the key, with the last two seasons above 45%.
Westermann has played for Sarunas Jasikevicius before, in the 2016/17 and 2018/19 campaigns. One of his best years in the Euroleague: 8.2 points, 5.5 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 25 minutes per game, came under Saras' watchful eye. After that great season he signed for CSKA Moscow (2017/18), but the Russian adventure only lasted one season before he returned to Kaunas.
In the last season and a half, 2019/20 and the start of 2020/21, Westermann has played for Fenerbahce Beko in Istanbul.
In the summer of 2014 Barça had a preferential right over Westermann, but in the end the Frenchman didn't join. Now, almost seven years later, it's become a reality.
