Barça becomes first European club to form part of Digital Innovation Hubs network

Club hence joins select group of organisations that will be involved in the European Commission’s innovation strategy to be promoted in the next few years

The Barça Innovation Hub (BIHUB) has taken a huge step forward in its consolidation as a leading innovation platform in Europe. Through the Hub, FC Barcelona will be one of the participant Digital Innovation Hubs being promoted and fostered by the European Commission. This means forming part of an exclusive group made up of 400 European entities that will help to define the innovation plans that the Commission plans to implement in the next few years.

The Digital Innovation Hubs initiative seeks to foster technological knowledge by supporting European industry, institutions and organisations with the management and improvement of their digital transformation. The BIHUB will form part of this network with its focus on knowledge and research applied to sporting excellence as a tool to help change society.

This strategy puts the BIHUB in a privileged position within the European innovation ecosystem. Barça is the first European club to join the network, which therefore means accessing funding opportunities via the Horizon 2020 programme, which has a budget of 300 million euros for projects promoted by Digital Innovation Hubs in the framework of the digitalisation and transformation of European services and industry.

Presence at Mobile World Congress

The Barça Innovation Hub, the platform that agglutinates all of the club’s projects for the management of knowledge, training, research and innovation was presented to the world a year ago at the Mobile World Congress, and will once again be featuring prominently at the most important telephone congress in the world this year from February 26 to March 1 at the Fira de Barcelona trade centre in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
