The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have confirmed the date, venue and format for this year's Spanish Super Cup, which pits FC Barcelona against Sevilla FC. The decision, made public on Sunday afternoon, sees a change to several aspects of the competition: The contest will take place in Tangier, Morocco, over a single game, rather than a two-legged tie.

The match will kick off at 9pm local time (10pm CET) on Sunday, 12 August. It will be the first official encounter of the season for Ernesto Valverde's men, against the side they beat in the 2017/18 Copa del Rey final.

Barça are 12-time winners of the Spanish Super Cup, most recently in 2016/17. Curiously, that game in August 2016 was against this year's opponents, whom they beat 0-2 in the first leg at the Sánchez Pizjuan and 3-0 at the Camp Nou in the return fixture.

This year will be the first time the competition has been held outside of Spain, and the game will be held at the 45,000 capacity Stade Ibn Battouta stadium.
