FC Barcelona and Villarreal meet this Wednesday night (8pm CEST) in a rescheduled LaLiga Matchday 34 contest. The game was postponed due to Barça's participation in the Copa del Rey final on April 21. The title race may already have been decided, but there will be a very special duel between two of the league's top goalkeepers: Ter Stegen and Sergio Asenjo.

The FC Barcelona custodian is competing for the Zamora trophy, awarded to the best goalkeeper in LaLiga each season. He has currently conceded just three more goals than his main rival, Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak. He has also been very supportive of Villarreal's Spanish shotstopper when Asenjo was sidelined with knee injuries, and the pair have frequently exchanged messages on social media.

"Great to see you flying around again @SergioAsenjo1 Good luck with your recovery! We have a game in December," tweeted Ter Stegen, in Spanish:

In the first meeting between the two sides this season, Asenjo returned from his fourth serious knee injury. He commented on the backing he had received from Ter Stegen to make another comeback:

“Ter Stegen was always checking up on my recovery. Gestures like that make you see the kind of human being he is. He's always given me a boost; nobody likes seeing a colleague going through a bad time."

In November, Ter Stegen tweeted again: "Welcome back, again." To which Asenjo replied: "Thank you very much @mterstegen1 By the way, you're having a GREAT season!

The two will meet again in person this Wednesday at the Camp Nou. Kickoff is at 8.00pm CEST.
