Speaking after Thursday’s 1-1 draw at Las Palmas, Barça manager Ernesto Valverde admitted that “we tried to rush things at times” and that “the penalty hurt because of how it happened.”

He also accepted that the result had left a bitter taste in the mouth because, especially in the first half, his side had looked like causing danger every time they crossed into the opposition’s half.

But after the home team had taken the lead just after the break, “their confidence grew and they were closing up the spaces and defending very well.”

It wasn’t the best of nights, but Valverde insists that the best thing to do would be to turn the page quickly and start thinking about the decisive clash with second placed Atlético Madrid in just three days’ time.

“Sunday’s game is, was and will continue to be important” he said. “We are the top two sides in the league and we’re really looking forward to it because of what it means for what’s left of the season.”
