Piqué: 'Messi loves the Club more than anyone'

The Barça centre half talks about the current situation at the Club at an event in Barcelona

Gerard Piqué has touched on some of the current topics at Barça in a promotional event in Barcelona on Thursday. The blaugrana defender said “Messi loves the club more than anyone,” and indicated that “we are not angry with the Club, nor is there a lack of communication.”

Piqué appeared not to be worried either about Leo Messi’s contract extension: “I am not worried at all about his extension because I know him and I know how he is.” The centre back also denied any rift with the Club’s board. “If we want to send messages we do it in private or we sit down with the Club, we don’t need to use social media,” explained Piqué.

The Catalan defender also mentioned Neymar’s departure: “A club has paid the buy-out clause and he has decided to leave.” Piqué went on to remark that the Brazilian’s friendship with the squad continues “intact.”

Finally, when asked about his own future, the centre back was characteristically forthright: “I have always said that I want to retire here so for that I have to perform and be important.”
