Xavi Hernández: El Clásico will be a key game

The former Barça midfielder talks about the importance of the upcoming derby in an exclusive interview for Goal.com

Another crucial El Clásico awaits this coming Sunday, and few are better equipped to weigh in with a knowledgeable opinion than FC Barcelona legend Xavi Hernández.

Despite now plying his trade in Qatar with Al Sadd, the midfield maestro still keeps a close eye on things back home, and weighed in with his thoughts on the upcoming game against Real Madrid.

“El Clásico will be a key game, with three quarters of the league on the line. It is a vital duel in regards to the league, especially for Barça who, if they win, will hang on (in the title race),” Xavi said.

The former captain reserved some special words for Leo Messi: “The first time I saw him train I saw something different. I had been told there was a young Argentine who was incredible, with personality, dribbling, ability, good shot… He is perfect in all aspects of his game. We are talking about the best player in the history of football.”

Finally, Xavi spoke about his own future: “I would love to be a manager, correct my players, analyse matches… I am obsessed with football, it is my passion. I will continue for another year at Al-Sadd but I think, at 38 years of age, it will be my last year as a player”.
