Rakitic says FC Barcelona are motivated for the stretch run

The Croatian midfielder spoke after the game about his pending contract renewal and head coach Luis Enrique's decision to leave at the end of the season

Luis Enrique has announced that he will not be extending his contract with FC Barcelona. After the 6-1 win against Sporting at Camp Nou, one of the goalscorers Ivan Rakitic confessed: “The boss told us of his decision before going out for the press conference. He was the one who brought me to Barça and I am very grateful for that.”

The Croatian international continued: “The coach’s decision is clear and in the dressing room we have to accept it. We want to end the season successfully, enjoy it as best we can and we will work hard to improve.”

Rakitic also touched on the subject of his own future at Barça and a contract extension. “The Club and I are moving in the same direction and we will meet in the next few days,” he revealed.

On the win over Sporting, the midfielder said “the win was deserved thanks to our six goals.” He continued: “We have another victory and now we want the season to have a fairy tale ending.”

Another man on the scoresheet at Camp Nou was Paco Alcácer who had this to say after the game:

“I'm very happy, not because of the goal I scored but because of the victory. For me the team always comes first and I prioritise that.”

“The best thing about this team is what we've seen tonight: the quality, the excitement, and the courage with which we play.”

“Leo left me all alone with only the goalkeeper to beat. It was a great cross and I only had to stick it between the posts."
