Marc-André ter Stegen: It’s been a tough week

The German keeper talks about the win over Leganés and calls for the fans to stick with the team

FC Barcelona managed to grind out a 2-1 win over Leganés on Sunday and, as well as Leo Messi’s two goals, much of it was thanks to the fine saves of Marc-André ter Stegen.

The German keeper spoke to the press after the game, highlighting that it was a difficult encounter but remained “happy that we were able to score at the end” and that the team was able to earn “three points more”.

Ter Stegen noted that “it has been a tough week for everyone” and hopes that this win “gives us the confidence we need”.

“All the players tried to give it their all. We need support from the fans, especially at home. We must stay together.”

With Atlético on the horizon, Ter Stegen said “we must now look to rest, as a tough game is coming up”.

Sergi Roberto

“After a defeat like the one in Paris it is normal that the team was not in its best condition but nevertheless we must move forward.”

“We have three more Liga games before the Champions League second leg which will be difficult. We have to go for all of them.”

“The team needs the support of the fans. We can assure them that we are giving 100 per cent and things will improve.”

Andrés Iniesta

“Many knew that this would be difficult match after the Champions League match.”

“Now we have a long week to recharge our batteries and disconnect a little from Paris.”

“We have a lot of work still to do, but we have to keep believing and trusting in what we do.”

Luis Enrique

"I am confident that better days will come and we will turn around the situation."

“I thought the team did well from the start, eager to reverse the situation and with an excellent attitude – even better than the last two seasons.”

“Throughout the week we will weigh up and analyse what we have to improve. We know what confidence, solidarity and strength will bring good results.”

“We have to praise the effort of the players. The team did what was demanded of them: to show character and the desire to play with the ball.”

“We knew about the difficulty of the match, going into it off the back of Paris. Still, we started well with an early goal and played well in the first 20 minutes.”

“The win is good mentally. Now we go into a long week of training and I am sure we will improve at the Caldéron.”
