23-year-old midfielder, currently recovering from an ankle injury, offered permanent place in FC Barcelona first team after loan spells at Granada and Las Palmas
Sergi Samper will be wearing number 16 as a first team member this season. After seasons on loan to first Granada and then Las Palmas, FC Barcelona and the 23-year-old product of La Masia have reached an agreement for the latter to remain at Camp Nou for the 2018/19 season.
The midfielder has amassed 12 appearances for the FCB first team so far, but missed the US Tour in July due to trouble with his left knee, and also been nursing ankle trouble in recent weeks.
He inherits the number 16 shirt from Gerard Deulofeu, who has joined Watford on a full-time basis, while previous incumbents of the jersey have included Sandro Ramírez (2015/16), Douglas (2014/15), Sergio Busquets (2009-14) and Sylvinho (2004-09).
Going further back in time, the number sixteen jersey was also worn by the great Xavi Hernandez way back in the 2000/01 season.
