Reunion for Barça and Tottenham, this time in the Champions League

The Catalans and the English team have already played a game this year, but it was the friendly that opened the last American tour. It will be the first time that the Blaugrana face Spurs in this competition.

Barça will play Tottenham again this season, the International Champions Cup meeting one month ago merely the warm up for the group stage of the Champions League.

Barça and Spurs, rivals on the American tour

The first opponent for FC Barcelona in 2018/19, on the American tour, was Tottenham. The Rose Bowl in Los Angeles was the venue for a match which ended 2-2 before a penalty shoot-out decided the game in favour of Ernesto Valverde’s team.

Munir opened the scoring, and then debutant, Arthur, scored a great goal from the edge of the area. Lenglet and Malcom also got their first minutes in a Barça shirt.

Another precedent

During the 2009/10 pre-season, Barça played Tottenham at Wembley. That match was also a draw (1-1) with Bojan scoring the goal for the team trained by Josep Guardiola.

Going back in time, the first official match between Barça and Tottenham was a two-legged affair that took place in 1981/82. FC Barcelona, trained by Udo Lattek, won 1-0 at the Camp Nou (Allan Simonsen) and drew 1-1 at White Hart Lane to go through.
