FC Barcelona Sports Technology Symposium back with expanded focus

The second annual gathering, hosted by the Club, aims to build on last year's maiden event with an impressive slate of international guest speakers

When the second edition of the Sports Technology Symposium, hosted by Futbol Club Barcelona, kicks off on 10 November 2016, a legion of professionals from around the world will be on hand to attend talks given by business and digital experts from some of the most prestigious organizations in sport.

The forum, which has been organized within the framework of the FCB Universitas initiative, will provide a global forum to discuss the topics of technology and data analysis in relation to the business of sports and sports performance, and will feature speakers from teams and leagues across the sporting spectrum, including members of the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Football League (NFL), and Major League Soccer (MLS), as well as from Europe’s top associations, like the English Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, and the Euroleague. 

Among the specific teams to be represented this year from major professional leagues in the United States are the Chicago Bulls, the Golden State Warriors, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Seattle Sounders.

The two-day Symposium will be divided up into several parts and activities, with one day oriented towards sports and the other towards business, and will focus on current trends, with special emphasis on analytics and innovation.

This year’s guest speakers include Juan P. Hinestroza, Associate Professor and Director of the Textile Nanotechnology Laboratory at of Cornell University, among many others.

Other representatives from the United States to speak include members of the US Olympic Committee, the Super Bowl, Universal Parks and Resorts, and Facebook.

Internationally, the Symposium will feature speakers from prestigious organizations and entities such as the International Olympic Committee, as well as top English football clubs Arsenal, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

English is the official language of the Symposium, which last year drew 320 participants to FC Barcelona’s facilities.
